The Shadowlight Artists Success

Stop Press

The Shadowlight Artists are an independent group of digital artists with learning disabilities based in Oxfordshire. They are supported by Film Oxford.

The group of five local artists recently had an exhibition in the Gallery at Cornerstone called Shadowlight Artists: Creative Bridges. The exhibition spanned sculptural installation, painting and theatrical work alongside digital media, and encompasses subjects ranging from urban regeneration to our Neolithic ancestry.

On July 15th, the artists joined in the fun at Cornerstone's Access All Areas day which was a day-long festival with hands-on activities designed for people with learning disabilities. It was a lovely opportunity for the artists to get involved with the workshop.

The exhibition has been so successful that The Shadowlight Artists have been shortlisted by the National Diversity Awards 2016 in the category "Community Organisation Award for Disability". These awards are the UK's Largest Diversity Awards. The award evening will be held in Liverpool on September 16th 2016 to celebrate the outstanding achievements of those who have demonstrated their devotion to enhancing equality, diversity and inclusion in today's society. Over 20,000 nominations and votes were received this year so the group have done extremely well to be shortlisted.

The artists need your help!

On September 16th, the National Diversity Awards 2016 will be taking place and the artists would love to attend! Unfortunately, the event is only able to provide one free ticket for the nomination. The Shadow Light Artists need your support with fundraising the money to take all the artists to the event. The group have set up an appeal page to help raise the funds to make this special trip possible. Just a small donation would be greatly appreciated and will help go towards covering the costs of the trip. Some of these costs include; overnight accommodation, tickets, travel and suit hire.

If you are able to make a donation, you can do so online via their local giving page

The team and Cornerstone wish the group all of the best for the awards evening and hope you have a fantastic time!
