Sky Gazing by Alison Walters

Tuesday 9 Jan 2024 to Sunday 3 Mar 2024

Note from artist Alison Walters about Sky Gazing:

"Wild skies and racing clouds. I have been painting skies of all sorts, observing the drama and colour in our skies, even on a typical British grey winter day. Our clouds often move, sometimes rapidly. I have tried to capture the energy in the atmosphere, particularly just before or after a storm, which is more frequent today.

Storms and floods have always been a feature of the Thames Valley, so I have included paintings of the river flooding at Abingdon, with brilliant light reflecting through the trees and off the water. A threatening sky over Oxfordshire from Wittenham Clumps led to a darker painting. I have captured the excitement of changing skies over the sea, in England, Wales or abroad.

I paint in oils, acrylics and watercolour, using brushes of varied sizes. I take photographs or paint quick watercolours outside, before moving to the studio and starting on a canvas."
