This exhibition is the end of year work of students enrolled on the Advanced Textile workshop. The course supports students’ progress in the development of their personal creative practice.
For the first two terms, students work on set exercises, informed by their summer research. These exercises encourage sampling, experimenting, and investigating different techniques and materials. For the remainder of the course, students work on their personal project chosen by themselves. Deciding their initial concept, sampling with their chosen materials and techniques, to finally producing a resolved piece of work.
The aim is that all students produce a piece or body of work, for the end of year exhibition. Students have explored a vast range of themes; from memories, the destruction of the natural environment, travels abroad, to a poem that inspired. Encompassing a wide variety of techniques that are directly related to or inspired by textile traditions. Each piece is a personal response, capturing the essence of the students chosen theme.
